Hungary is located in Central Europe, its land area is approximately 93,000 square kilometres. Our country is divided into three main regions: areas west of the River Danube (Dunántúl), lowlands in the south (Alföld) and Northern Hungary. The region Dunántúl is mainly hilly landscape with the exception of its northern areas called Kisalföld. Hungary's highest mountain called Kékestető can be found in the hills of Északi-középhegység and is 1014 m high. The River Danube Europe's second largest river and the River Tisza are the two main waterways of Hungary. Lake Balaton is the second largest lake in Western and Central Europe.

Hungary's neighbour in the north is the Republic of Slovakia, in the east Ukraine and Romania, in the south Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia and in the west Austria.
